Waimea Beach, Kamehameha Highway, North Oahu Description:
Waimea Bay Beach Park seems like protected waters from spectacular, ridable surf, often to thirty plus feet - however the big inshore breaks and powerful rip currents must be respected. Obey all the well placed signs and warnings. In the summer, the waters are calmer and the soft white sands are hot. Fantastic waves and beautiful waters. Great place to snorkel and swim. Turtles, dolphins and fish are common. Rock jumping off the left beach side.
Hawaiians believed that Waimea had healing powers. Waimea Falls and a high hill hiking is located nearby.
Waimea Beach is off the Kamehameha Highway. A large parking lot is available, but often fills up certainly by noon. If you park on the hilly road, obey all parking signs so as not to get towed. It will be a far walk back.

I got tossed in some of the biggest surf of my life in this area while body surfing. It was good for a while but then this huge surf came in and was super difficult to get back to the beach. Yikes, glad I was a good swimmer and some experience in big water. Nice place on the north shore and it wasnt that busy when we were there.
